Week 9 - Space + Art
Dr. Vesna started off her lectures by explaining how space was the last connecting part of this DESMA class. She talked about how space essentially connects with every aspect of our lives. There was a short video shown that zoomed out from Earth to space and then reversed into a cell body, which was extremely fascinating. I often do not recognize the importance of space because I focus more on my daily life and daily tasks. Through this section, I gained different perspectives on the importance of space. I think the most fascinating part of all of this is that when zooming out into space and also zooming into the human body, they have such similar compositions, which further shows how closely related we (humans) are to our environment.
She further discussed a topic that is also very similar to humans: zodiac signs. Humans often build on this concept, finding patterns and meaning in the alignment of celestial bodies. The zodiac is a system that divides the sky into twelve sections, each associated with a particular constellation and time of the year. These signs are believed to influence human personalities, behaviors, and destinies. The relation between humans and zodiac signs extends back to ancient times when people looked to the stars for guidance and understanding of their place in the universe. The positions of the sun, moon, and planets at the time of a person’s birth are thought to shape their characteristics and life path. This cosmic connection suggests that we are intrinsically linked to the universe, reinforcing the idea that space and our environment play a crucial role in our existence.
In the lectures, Dr. Vesna emphasized how the study of space and the zodiac can provide insights into human nature and our relationship with the cosmos. By observing the heavens, we gain a deeper appreciation of the interconnectedness of all things, from the vastness of space to the intricacies of human life. This perspective encourages us to see ourselves as part of a larger, dynamic system, where the movements of celestial bodies reflect and influence our own lives.
